Energy Supply: Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS); 100% Clean and Renewable Energy Targets; other major state policies, plans, and programs relating to energy supply.

Transportation: ZEV mandates; low carbon fuel standards; MOUs; other major state collaborations, initiatives, policies, plans, and programs relating to transportation.

Industry: Status of carbon pricing; appliance standards and extent of federal preemption; other major state initiatives relating to industry.

Buildings: Major energy efficiency codes and policies; green building incentives; combined heat and power (CHP); adoption of International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) or American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Standards; other major state initiatives relating to buildings and energy efficiency.

Natural & Working Lands, Agriculture, and Forestry: Major initiatives, policies, plans, and programs for land use planning; agriculture; forestry.

Cross-sector: GHG emissions reduction targets; policies which apply across sectors; and general climate policies such as California’s economy-wide cap-and-trade program.

Disclaimer: This project examines sector policies for states with greenhouse gas emissions reductions targets. Therefore, policy data is only available for the 27 states with set targets. Data was collected as of summer of 2020. Data subject to updates and change over time. Most data is linked to publicly-available government documents.
