Definitions >

Climate policy: Legislation, regulations, targets, policies, plans, programs and institutional development.

Energy Supply: Major government policy actions relating to renewable energy including clean energy targets and renewable portfolio standards.

Transportation: Major government policy actions relating to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector including zero-emission vehicle mandates and low carbon fuel standards.

Industry: Major government policy actions relating to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the industrial sector such as oil, gas and cement.

Buildings: Major government policy actions relating to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from buildings including building codes and appliance standards.

Natural & Working Lands, Agriculture, and Forestry: Major government policy actions relating to the conservation, restoration, and management of forests, rangelands, farms, urban green space, wetlands and coastal areas.

Adaptation: Major government policy actions to address the impacts of climate change including addressing climate related hazards, sea level rise and resilience planning.

Cross-sector: Greenhouse-emission reduction targets and other policy actions that address economy-wide emissions such as comprehensive climate plans.

Disclaimer: This project examines sector policies for states with greenhouse gas emissions reductions targets. Therefore, policy data is only available for the 28 states with set targets as of the latest version update. Data subject to updates and change over time. Most data is linked to publicly-available government documents.
